Alberta, Canada (Winter)
We started our winter trip up north in Revelstoke where Danny went skiing. It was -6 degrees here when Danny informed me this would be the warmest part of our trip.... little did I know it would reach -22 (FAHRENHEIT!) by the time we drove down to Emerald Lake. Here we stayed at emerald lake lodge, where we quickly discovered the cottages were not made for weather this cold. We had to keep a fire throughout the night in order to keep us warm. The property is beautiful and it would have been great to go cross country skiing and snow shoeing, but the weather didn’t allow us for this, just walking a short distance to the car Hailey's eyelashes froze!
Between skiing all week, we went up to Jasper and Banff for some short hikes. We drove up Columbia ice field road to Jasper. Between looking for the big horned sheep and gorgeous views, we saw Athabasca Glacier, Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Falls, and searched for the northern lights. Unfortunately, we didn't have any luck with the northern lights - but there's always next time!
We made a slight detour to Abraham Lake to see the Methane gas bubbles. Hailey was a little nervous walking across the frozen lake, so she had no problem blaming the cold weather on her quick return to the car. On the way back down to Banff we went dog sledding and did Johnson canyon. We loved the hike and exploring downtown Banff - can't wait to return when the weather is a little warmer!
